If for whatever reason, you want to use this guide for your site or anything, ask me first. If you ask nicely, I'll more than likely grant permission. I'm not sure why anyone would really want to use this FAQ anyway, but that's another story.

As this is an in-depth guide, it will contain "SPOILERS". If you wish to explore "Purumui Purumui" yourself, that's fine by me, but this FAQ tells you just about everything you want to find out in this game, so please leave now if you don't wish to know.

.:Version History:.
-------------------

This is the very first version. I'm almost 100% sure there will be a few errors, but please be patient, things will get better eventually. Why am I making an FAQ for this game? It doesn't have any info. I've gotten my import shopping list started, and this is one of the first that I've received that doesn't have info. It's a FAQ for all us English talking, Non-Japanese folk (Sorry people. Other than English, some Japanese, and some Spanish, I don't know any other languages in the slightest!).

.:Game Description/Tips:.
-------------------------

"Fillip Side...A world of lush beauty...A world of such magnificent splendor. The inhabitants of Fillip Side know of the legends of old...The stories about the battles between good and evil...The tales regarding the strange relics scattered across the land...but alas, that is all behind them now. It's been peaceful for so long, they thought that nothing could possibly go wrong. One day, two young inhabitants of Fillip Side, Mui and Popuri, decide to explore the field together. Their innocent playing causes them to stumble into a forest with a strange emblem on the ground. The two were no doubt curious and so their curiosity caused them to approach the emblem. Suddenly, they see a shining light up in the sky, but what's this? There's a girl inside! Her name is Madoka, and she doesn't exactly remember what she was doing or how she ended up in the forest. Since she seems to have some sort of amnesia, Mui and Popuri take her to the home of Muu where the four of them can live peacefully. However, little do Mui and Madoka know...fate has other plans...for them as well as all of Fillip Side!"
-- Purumui Purumui Quote By Vyse --

To try to put the plot into perspective a little more, Mui and Madoka are the chosen ones. Madoka is the knight that will strike down the evil that comes her way. Mui is like the shield. He assists Madoka anyway he can. Together, they must save Fillip Side from total chaos and ultimately foil the ambition of the diabolical Iibasu. They are guided by Aanisu, the light of Fillip Side, who helps the heroes prevent catastrophe. The story is very general and straightforward. While you meet several silly looking characters, the manual shows that the "key" characters are Madoka, Mui, Popuri, Muu, Koronisu, Aanisu, Shaina, and Iibasu.

Purumui Purumui is a little odd as far as Playstation imports that I have played. The game classifies itself as a "Morphing" RPG. The game has several areas on the ground, that when stepped on, will glow to tell you it's active. During this time, you can use food to transform Mui into a variety of different things. Knowing what items transform Mui into the correct form for the given situation is only half the battle. You must first create the item that will morph Mui. In some cases, you can buy the items without having to make them. In other cases, you can find the recipes or try making them yourself...though without the aid of this FAQ, that is generally impossible. The game has Zelda-esque hack-n-slash action with minor puzzle solving. The game requires a fair deal of backtracking because the world is small and you must go back through previous areas. Madoka's basic actions are to crouch, slash, push, and charge attack. Depending on Madoka's "Power Medal" (explained later), The R1 button gives her a special command. Her charge attack also changes depending on the medal. Whenever you are in a dungeon, press the Select button to bring up the dungeon map.

As far as background history for this game, there isn't really any history behind it. Unless I am unaware, this is a standalone game and it doesn't have any sequel or side story behind it. Purumui Purumui was published by Culture Publishers and produced by the Purumui Purumui Team and F2 Company Limited. A shame too, since the concept behind the game had a bit of potential. I could have seen the series evolve into a more quirky RPG with a hilarious plot. However, The creators of this game were short lived and didn't see much success. However, they will not go down in vain, for they seemed proud of Purumui Purumui, and their work hasn't gone unnoticed.

Long story short, fight Iibasu, save Fillip Side, become legendary heroes who rock out loud. Here's a few tips if you are trying to do well in this game, as well as a few things I've been trying to piece together.

1. If you know absolutely NO Japanese, then a simple method of RPGing is to simply talk to everyone you meet, comb the surrounding areas, then talk to them again. This gets you out of...probably 55% of your RPG troubles.

2. Save your puru (money) as much as possible. There will be a point in the game where you will need 50,000 puru for something.

3. Try to distinguish between the uses of different items. While I can tell you what some of them are called and describe what they do, I can't force these you to remember what does what, or to learn a little Japanese.

4. Save often. The game only has 2 save points. There are no save points in the dungeons.

.:Description Of Game Options/Flow Of The Game:.
-----------------------------------------------------

First, I'll start with the title screen, starting from the top.
1. Start a game. (Self-explanatory)

2. Load a game. If you have memory card saves, choose the file you wish to continue from.

3. Pocket Kitchen. This option allows you to play a Purumui Purumui minigame via the Pocketstation. (explained with image below)

Once again, options are mentioned starting from the top. Since I don't own a Pocketstation, I'm going to just generalize.

1. Download file. I'm guessing that this either takes data off of the Pocketstation, or the Pocketstation gets the minigame data from the game. After all, I doubt the Pocketstation would have these games already built in.

2. About Pocket Kitchen. When you press the circle button here, you are taken to a tutorial of sorts with information about the various features of Pocket Kitchen. Since I do not have a Pocketstation, I cannot exactly specify what needs to be done. It should be pretty straightforward though.

3. Career data. Your Pocketstation will need this data. I have tried to use Pocketstation emulation to gain a better grasp of this, but it just won't work. I'd have to buy a Pocketstation if I am to have a more concrete understanding of this. I also can't capture any Pocket Kitchen pics.

4. The option in the green box. It changes when you scroll left and right. Basically, you see those larger green boxes (three of them) which appear to have food in them? They show the recipes you make in the Pocket Kitchen. One such recipe is a Mui and Popuri cake, which is a tasty looking cake with Mui and Popuri on top. If you have Pocketstation data, you may be able to click each food item (I'm guessing 20 total) and get some information about it.

Next, I will explain the rudiments of gameplay!

~~~*****~~~*****~~~*****~~~
The options you are about to see below are activated by pressing the circle button at that pot on the stove. There are two pots like it in the game and you must use them to cook morphing items for Mui. You have three primary options at this stove. I will go over them from top to bottom. If you want to cancel anything, press the X button to cancel.
Numero uno! "Nimotsu No Seiton!!!!" What does it mean? Organize your things. That is the general meaning anyway. Nimotsu No Seiton is highlighted in the red box. When you select that option, you will be brought to another screen. Since scaling the image with everything on it would look downright terrible, I just cut out the most important part...the "utsusu" boxes. What is utsusu? Basically, it is to remove, transfer, or infect. In this case, it is the transfer of food items. There are two images that have arrows that shows the way you are transferring. To make a little more sense, let me explain in more detail. The arrows pointing to the right mean that you are storing items for later use. The arrows pointing to the left let you know that you removing any items you have stored. Remember, arrows pointing to the right are items you want to store. Arrows to the left indicate that you are removing items from storage. Simple enough.
Numero dos! "Reshipi Kukkingu!!!!" What does it mean? Recipe cooking! When you select it, you will get a screen that shows Mui's cute mug along with a list of ingredients. I'll explain what the letters represent. "A" shows your list of known recipes. That box is the "Reshipi Ichiran", your recipe catalog. "B" is pointing to the R1 button message. Since I only wanted three images across (to save on time and space), I didn't show you what happens when you push R1, though it is very easy to figure out. I can still tell you what happens. When you push R1, you will see a list of all the ingredients in the game and how much you have of each. The box that pops up when you hit R1 is the "Zairyou Kakunin". "C" is the box with Mui in it. Basically, Mui will describe the effects that the selected recipe will have. In this case, "Purin" (Pudding) is highlighted and the effect is that it will recover 50 star points (SP) when used. SP is explained a little later. The final image shows the highlighted item from the previous image (Pudding) and tells you the items necessary to make it, highlighted in the red box. It costs one bottle of milk and one egg to make. Pressing the circle button again will have Madoka create pudding...assuming you have the necessary items. Pretty simple, eh? After making items, you will be asked if you want to store anything. If you don't want to, just hit X.
Numero tres! "Hirameki Kukkingu!!!!" What does it mean? Cooking with insight! Hirameki means flair, flash, or insight. I just decided to go with insight. You can try to make new dishes without finding the recipe. About the only thing you can make without the recipe is pudding or bread. You must put the exact ingredients in the exact order or else it won't work. However, I have tested it, and it is possible to learn to make a new item without having found the recipe for it. On my actual memory card (On the Playstation itself, not emulator), I have three saves. Two at the end of the game, and one early in the game. I kept the early file on purpose; To test my theory. Anyway, on to the other two screens. One is showing you all the ingredients (You get a similar screen if you hit R1 on other screens) and how many you have. The ingredients are as follows:
Starting from the top row to bottom row and from left to right:
- Top row: Komugi (wheat), Tamago (egg), Miruku (milk), Hi (ice)
- Second row: Kakao (cacao or cocoa), Ichigo (strawberry), Orenji (orange), Maron (chestnut)
- Third row: Meron (Melon), Kabocha (pumpkin), Buruton (not sure. probably made up), Buroonii (brownie)
- Last row: Burakku Rotasu (Also probably made up), Chiizu (cheese), Anchobii (anchovy), huwahuwa (light...cream?)
Huwahuwa just means light or airy, but the item looks like cream, so that's probably what it is. The options to the right of that chart are as follows (starting from the top):
- Top option (erabu): Select the items you would like to combine.
- Middle option (ryouri suru): Combine the items you selected.
- Bottom option (yarinaosu): Start over again. This will remove all selected items.
The other image (with Mui) is just showing you the boxes for the items you select. You can only select up to six ingredients to combine.
As you are aware, talk isn't cheap. You should talk to as many NPCs as possible, as much as possible. I don't think I need an image to show you what conversation looks like, but keep that in mind. Conversation almost always helps heroes progress through the story in RPGs. You can also score some money and cool items, unlock sidequests, find hidden characters, and even access alternate endings through conversation. In Purumui Purumui, it is important to talk to certain characters at a specific time. You can get some helpful items if you do. Next is just an overview of Madoka's status screen.
The little bunny looking thing is Mui. The girl on the right is obviously Madoka. "HP" in this game is represented with hearts. You will collect "Heart Cases" throughout the game to increase her maximum life. The only item that restores HP is bread (pan), and anchovy shakes (anchobii seeki). Anchovy shakes revive Madoka at full HP when she is killed. Bread restores one heart. "SP" is her star points. Whenever Madoka uses the hidden power of a Power Medal, Madoka spends SP. The amount of SP spent is dependant on the Power Medal Madoka uses. Madoka's basic Power Medal, the knight medallion, uses 100 SP to transform into a stronger knight of pure power. The transformation lasts for 10 seconds per 100 SP. If you want to stay as the knight for one minute, it will cost her 600 SP. Pudding is the only item that restores SP. Each pudding gives 50 SP. During a transformation, Madoka is invincible, but she will lose a fair deal of time if she gets hit. With that being said, don't get hit.
Look below the Japanese (It spells okane, which is money) under Madoka's portrait. The image shows a value of 0p...That value is your money. The current balance is 0 puru. Underneath the 0p is a picture of a key with a "x0" next to it. That tells you how many keys you have. You find keys in dungeons. Now look under Mui to see five empty slots. "Daiji Na Mono", or your valuable things, go in those five slots. They hold key items. Below the five empty slots are seven more empty slots. "Medaru", or medals, go in those seven slots. In the far bottom right corner is "Jikan", or time. Your playtime. Easy as pie right? Anyway the two options to the left of Mui are simple to explain. The top one...well, that's the "Suteetasu", or status. I already went over all of it. The bottom option is "Reshipi", which I already explained in excruciating detail.
The images above show the morphing points. The first image lets you get to see a clear picture of what a morph point looks like. When you stand on one (As shown in the next picture), it begins to glow a golden color. If you press the Square button, you will see an item belt appear and it will show what items you have in your possession. Some items will have an "X" over them. If that is the case, that means that they are not morphing items. Otherwise, items without an X will morph Mui into something cool. The last image shows Mui in a transformed state. That form is known as the "Mui Rocket" form. You can ride Mui at high speeds when he is in that state. Mui becomes a rocket when given a cookie that you can buy at the marketplace. Remember, you can only morph Mui at morph points, though there are a couple of exceptions to that rule. There are special items that will morph Mui only when you are in a dungeon.
Just so you know, I will be using map images to show you where you should be throughout this FAQ. If you need to see the map, walk up to the fellow (he is in several locations) circled in blue and talk to him and pick the first option on the top. His name is Mappuu-Kun.
.:Character Descriptions:.
----------------------------
To save on space, you can view the key characters in their specified links.
Click here to see Madoka, Mui, Popuri, and Muu.
- Madoka: She is the girl with the reddish-pink hair and the girl who came from the orb of light. Madoka is a mostly silent protagonist. She doesn't really speak, but she has little voice clips from time to time...though mostly in battle. Many people in the world of Fillip Side view Madoka as this beautiful creature, and why shouldn't they? She is one of the few human-like (for all I know, she may not even be human) people in Fillip Side. She also has some serious style...what with all the jewelry she's packing. Jewels on the hands, feet (though not in the link shown) and even a dangling pendant. Though she mostly plays the role of a chef (carrying baskets of ingredients around), she has the look of someone highly majestic and upper class. She is kind and spirited and will help anyone who is in trouble. She is also the knight of justice, and the sword that will protect Fillip Side from harm. While it isn't exactly clear to me why she was floating in the orb of light, I surmise that she was in a deep sleep until the world needed her again.
- Mui: He is the little yellow guy with the blue markings on em'. Mui ordinarily could be found enjoying life to it's fullest and not worrying about the consequences. He seems as though he doesn't possess any real power of any kind. However, when he meets Madoka, everything changes. Mui is actually a very special kind of creature that can manipulate his physical appearance to suit any given situation. However, he must usually have special items to do so. He also possesses high magical abilities and when the need arises, he can combine with Madoka to make the two of them become one ultra powerful person. That power is given to Mui when he uses the power of the Power Medals. With his handy ability to morph and utilize the power of the medals, there is nothing that Mui and Madoka can't do!
- Popuri: Popuri is the pink creature with the ribbon on her head. I haven't sat down and translated too much, but even still, Popuri isn't really in too much of the game. She is close to Mui and the two of them always used to play together. Due to events in the story, Popuri is mostly absent for the entire game. She is abducted early on by Shaina, and together, the two of them do the evil bidding of Iibasu. However, Popuri can't control her actions and is actually being manipulated by Iibasu. She is not to blame!
- Muu: Ah, the old and knowledgable Muu. He is the kind fellow who allowed Madoka into his home. He knows a thing or two about Koronisu and Iibasu and he will occasionally impart wisdom to your heroes. Of course, unless you understand Japanese, this is of little importance to you. He generally just lets you handle your business and doesn't interfere with your work. In the end, Muu will help your two heroes out.
Click here to see Koronisu, Aanisu, Shaina, and Iibasu.
- Koronisu: My god...I don't even know why this chick is a key character. Koronisu is the girl with the bluish-silver looking hair with her hands behind her back. I only remember seeing this girl once in the entire game and she didn't even mutter one word. I don't want to give it away here. Koronisu herself seemed like a good natured person, but for a long time, you won't see her. What happened to her? Where could she be?
- Aanisu: Aanisu is the woman with the angelic wings. She is the light of Fillip Side and will guide Madoka and Mui along the path of good. She tells the two about the Power Medals and that they need five of them in order to become strong enough to wield the "Master Medal", the only medal strong enough to defeat Iibasu. If she doesn't communicate to you whenever you obtain a medal, she will leave her messages in statues that look like her or in rare instances, she will communicate through telepathy. She is also known as "Mama Aanisu" or "Mother Aanisu", probably due to her benevolent role in the protection of Fillip Side. She seeks to protect her children.
- Shaina: Shaina is the girl wielding the wicked looking sword and has the odd pink creature beside her. If you look at Shaina, she appears to be the antithesis of Madoka and Mui doesn't she? Her pink friend is actually Popuri and together, the two of them act as the sword and shield of darkness, doing Iibasu's dirty work. While Popuri is at some rehearsal of some kind at the beginning of the game, Shaina abducts her and she acts as Shaina's assistant. She goes to the various locations where Power Medals are located and tries to stop you from obtaining all five. Her first act of aggression is when she destroys the bridge near the rehearsal area. By doing so, she thought that Madoka wouldn't be able to obtain the knight medallion, but Mui helps her obtain it.
- Iibasu * Baisu: Iibasu Baisu seems to be his whole name. A terrifying fiend who is rarely ever seen. He sends Shaina out to stop you from getting the Power Medals. In the meantime, he is buying time to try to unleash a devastating attack in the mighty space fortress, the Dreadnought, in which he resides. If he is allowed to have his way, Fillip Side is certainly doomed!
.:Submitting Help for this FAQ:.
-----------------------------------
This FAQ was almost a solo effort. That's not good. I like when people participate. Therefore, to fill the empty void in my special thanks section as well as in my heart, I am going to attempt to provide ways in which you can contact me so that we may converse on certain matters. Don't be shy...contribute anything that isn't here already or something that should be fixed!
Because too many people send spam emails and junk emails (Even several GameFAQs users), I don't feel comfortable leaving my NORMAL email address. However, you may drop a dime in the SNES board, and now that I actually DO have internet, I should answer it fairly quick (Give me three days at the most). You can also hit me up at my alternate email account: worldofgaming@yahoo.com and I should get back to you. Post a topic specifically aimed at me, Vyse the determined, vtd, Vyse, cooldude...etc. (I am called many things). Perhaps something like "Question concerning Vyse" or "Hey stud..." or "Hey Vyse the Stupid!!". I should answer momentarily. I appreciate it. Sorry to put people through the trouble, but my computer runs slow enough as it is. I don't need that crap.
.:Special Thanks/Credits:.
-----------------------------
Vyse the determined: For having the patience to start this great FAQ. Yes, I know that's me. In reviews and such, I often make it a habit to refer to myself in 3rd person.
eBay: For allowing people all over the world to meet and sell their great stuff. That's how I got my hands on this game!
Culture Publishers and F2 Company Limited: For making this game. Thanks. It was pretty fun overall. More unknown games should have FAQs.
Godaddy: For hosting my site and allowing me to put my content for the world to see.
.:Full-Branch Walkthrough:.
------------------------------
To start this walkthrough off, I will tell you that it will be significantly different than my last FAQ, SD Hiryu No Ken. SDHNK was a fighting game, and for that reason, I put everything on one page. This game, however, will have multiple pages. I will label my FAQ with chapter names and once I reach the end of a certain "chapter", I will have something that says "Continue To Page 2". This is for easier reading. I've been told that people look for differenet things in different genres. A couple of fighting game fans told me that they like to scroll through and see everything at once so they don't have to jump from page to page if they need to reference a different characters movelist. For this Action RPG, I want to try something a little different. If you need help for a particular spot in the game, look through the chapters. With all of this being said, that is the reason why the "Special Thanks" and "Help Submission sections" have been moved.
---Chapter 1: The start of disaster! The birth of two heroes!---
