Ahriman's Prophecy is freeware that you can download and play whenever you find the time. The people who made
the game are Amaranth Productions
and while they make other games, this one is only available by download (As far as I'm aware). Most of the other games
and things they have seem like demos to make you purchase the real thing. ANYWAY, the game starts you off with the young
and lovely Talia Maurva. She is 13 years old (though she ages throughout the story) and lives in the secluded village of Elden.
During the course of the game, she makes friends and gains mystical powers. Her mission is to eventually stop the evil Ahriman.
The graphics are nice old-school RPG stuff and I like it. The graphics (as you may or may not see) are SNES caliber, which is what the developers were aiming for and so they have succeeded in that regard. The music is pretty decent, but it's not prefect. There are a couple of areas where I felt the music could have been better. However, the sound effects lift the game quite nicely for the most part.
Jungle sounds...birds chirping...water flowing...oh yeah! Overall, I was pleased with the sound.
My complaints lie with the gameplay. I liked this game and played a fair deal into it but it seems to have some bugs. Maybe it's just my computer, as it isn't the best by a long shot, but the game lags whenever fighting goes on. You can walk away from an enemy and they aren't facing you, but can still
get hit due to lagging responses. The status screen and magic system seems a little clumsy to me as well. To change the character who will initiate combat, you have to enter the status screen and exit the screen while highlighting who you wish to use. Like I said, my computer isn't that good, so this may just be my personal issues with the game due to hardware constraints. I know several people who've played the game and had a blast! Try it. It's an interesting game and you may enjoy it.- Written by Vyse the determined - |
