I think that I translated the name right...I hope so. Neko Bouraku (or Cat Slump/Cat Heavy Decline) is another basic and free game that can be downloaded on the Nepia World site. The game doesn't have any plot, though if I had to guess, you play with a catgirl who must rescue other cats (who look exactly like you) that act like lemmings and walk to their doom. The file name for this game says "Nekobo". That's all there is to say really.
The game is a little cleaner than Pulse Blade from Nepia World, but the game remains very basic in its design. What little the game has, it does it fairly well and the catgirls are colorful, adorable, and detailed enough. The music leaves much to be desired since the game is slow and repetitive. The game only uses one "master" BGM throughout the entire game and the sound effects are limited, but suitable for the game given what takes place. Nothing more can really be said here.
The object behind Neko Bouraku (Nekobo) is a little unique and very rudimentary. However, like all things that start off simple, the game ensures that it will become more challenging. While I dub the game a "Vertical Shooter", the heavy emphasis of the game doesn't lie in shooting. You must catch catgirls that fall from the sky and they walk down platforms and fall down. You must shoot the platforms to change their direction to help you catch the catgirls before they plunge to their demise. If you accidentally shoot a catgirl, you kill them and a penalty is issued. There is a number at the top-right corner of the screen and that acts as your life. "000" means you are in perfect health and the number rises for each catgirl that is slain. Once it reaches 100, you lose.
That's not all. Catching them is tricky enough, but as you progress through the stage, the screen scrolls faster, the platforms change and become more numerous and you must dodge crashing into platforms AND bullets that happen to appear out of nowhere! However, you have a secret weapon; The ability to dive for cover. You must use this move to quickly jump back and forth while the cats start pouring out from every corner of the globe. One flaw with this game is that the hit detection for platforms seems to be a tad bit off. Sometimes I'll be ultra close to a platform and go unharmed. Other times, I wouldn't be as close and die. You only have one life and platforms kill you instantly (bullets do too) even if your health is "000". The game is good for a quick run through if you have nothing else to do, but the download size is very big for a game that doesn't really have much substance. - Written by Vyse the determined - |
