Subterrania...with just a little more polish, this game could quite possibly have been the shooter that all following shooters would have looked up to. Okay, okay, maybe
that's a bit of a hyperbole, but listen to me when I say this: This game is awesome.
The graphics of the game are superb. The game has vibrant colors, highly detailed environments, silky smooth action and it even attempts to have what you can call an
"opening FMV"! Bosses are quite detailed and the attention to background details is great. You shouldn't have too many complaints when it comes to the visuals of this game...but that's not
all there is to a game now is there? The audio is good...it's not particularly amazing, but it sets the mood and definitely gets the job done. So long as the sounds aren't ultra irritating, I'm all good.
It's the gameplay department that really gives off mixed
vibes. You have to blast your way through numerous levels while solving various problems, such as transporting precious goods from one place to the next, etc. This is okay...until you
get to the unusual aspect of the game...nay, not unusual...more like realistic. The ship you pilot in the game must always be moving to stay afloat, as once you stop, "gravity" takes hold and
brings your ship towards the ground. The fact that your ship must zip around in tightly confined caverns doesn't exactly help the situation. The controls are quite sensitive, so it may take
you much practice to get used to them. The game is also very challenging, so if you aren't a particularly skilled gamer and know it, I'd pass on this game. However, don't let what I say stop
you from playing this game. It's nice, and if you can get past the physics applied to this game like the gravity issues, you may find a diamond in the rough. Subterrania is a very cheap game and should be easily obtainable so at the very least, give the game a chance.- Written by Vyse the determined - |
