Additional Info On Maru's Mission (Cont.) Next we have bosses. Let's talk about the first level. When I say "level", you should know that each level in this game actually consist of two stages. You fight a mini-boss on the first stage and the real boss on the second. The black screens display their names. The main boss of the first level of the U.S. game is called Insector. The main boss of the Japanese game is Niou. The mini-boss of the first stage of the U.S. game is called Eyeclop. In the Japanese version, the mini-boss is called Ushioni. Niou (Nioh in the U.S. game) is actually the mini-boss on the final level in the U.S. game because the last level is in Japan. Because you start the game in Japan in the Japanese version, he is actually the MAIN boss of the first level. Ushioni does not exist in the U.S. game whereas Eyeclop does not exist in the Japanese game. Insector also doesn't exist in the Japanese game...though the mini-boss of the final level (called Beruzebabu/Beelzebub) looks different, but fights exactly the same as Insector. Next is the second level. The mini-boss is Wolfman in the U.S. version. In the Japanese version, the mini-boss is referred to as "Ookamiotoko" which means the same thing as "Wolfman" with "Ookami" being "wolf" and "otoko" being man. They have different sprites and fight a bit differently. The main boss is Dracula in both games and the sprites were altered during localization in North America.
